Font tester: preview spacing at the size you plan to use

Begin with wording that belongs in the finished design: a menu item, product name, short headline or sentence. A pangram is useful for seeing the alphabet in one place, but it cannot show how your actual copy feels. Compare the same text in every candidate so differences come from the typeface rather than the sample. Look at repeated letters, punctuation and pairs such as “To” or “AV”; these can expose spacing that an alphabet row misses.

Preview the text close to the size where readers will see it. For body copy, check whether counters remain open and whether letters keep a steady rhythm around 16 to 20 pixels. For a display face, use the larger size it is meant to occupy. You can adjust size, line height and tracking to judge both the letterforms and the block they create. A setting that looks attractive at one size may feel crowded or too loose at another.

Choose a font from the library or load a supported file from your computer. Your browser reads a local file for this tab; it is not added to the font library or made available to other visitors. Close the tab when you are finished and the local preview is cleared. If you want to keep a font for use in other apps, use the download options on its font page and check the license for your intended use.

FAQ

Common questions

What file types and sizes does the font tester accept?
Load a TTF, OTF, WOFF or WOFF2 file up to 10 MB. The tester previews one readable font file at a time. A .ttc file is a collection of fonts rather than a single font, so it is not accepted; export or obtain an individual font file before trying again.
Does the font tester send my files online?
No. The browser opens your selected font locally for the preview and does not send the file to our servers. The local font remains available only in the current tab. Reload the page or close the tab to clear the preview and start with a fresh selection.
Why is one character using a different design?
The font file may not include that character, so the browser draws it with a fallback font. This can happen with accented letters, symbols or characters from another writing system. Check the font’s language coverage or try a sentence containing the characters you need; a preview cannot add missing glyphs to the file.
Where can I get a library font after previewing it?
Select the library font name to open its page, where you can review its styles and the download options available for that font. Download availability depends on the font page and your account. A file you supplied for testing stays on your computer; it is separate from library downloads.
