Brush Roman Press gives “A Ranger” a smooth, high-contrast roman silhouette, with a capital A whose triangular counter sits above its crossbar and an outward-angled R leg. The lowercase g in Ranger is double-storey with a closed lower loop. The paired Acorn Birch file is visibly narrow and tall in the supporting lines, creating a strong width contrast; keep those lines short and check longer copy at the intended size.

Direction
Keep the display words brief and compare the narrow supporting face at the final device width before settling the pair.
Brush Roman Press sets “A Ranger” as the display line; the actual Acorn Birch file handles the smaller subheading and reading sample. Acorn Birch is visibly narrow and tall beside the headline.
This example shows a real pairing at separate preview sizes. The companion’s condensed forms create a strong width contrast, so keep its copy short and check a full paragraph before adopting it.

These tested alphabet strings show where accented letters appear in this file.

Test
Type the words you plan to use and adjust size, line height, and letter spacing. The preview uses the final font file.

Choose
The capital A’s triangular counter sits above the crossbar in the rendered “A Ranger” specimen.
The R leg angles down and outward from a compact bowl.
The lowercase g in “Ranger” is double-storey, with a closed lower loop.
Good for
Use Brush Roman Press for a short display line, then test a narrow companion such as Acorn Birch only when its condensed supporting text fits the layout.
Check before using
The specimen shows a drawn letterform, not a verified printing process; the condensed companion line should not be extended into dense paragraphs without a reading check.
About
Its x-height is 64.4% of the cap height, near the 64.4% typical of serif fonts in the library. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (98.5% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 26.4% of the cap height below the baseline. The o is close to a circle, 1.09 times as wide as it is tall, and M is the widest capital, at 1.10 times the width of H. Round letters overshoot: O rises 4.9% of the cap height above H and dips 1.1% below the baseline.
The letters stand upright, leaning less than 2.5° either way. Vertical stems measure 22.8% of the cap height. Strokes change thickness with direction: the sides of o and O are 3.3 times as thick as their tops and bottoms.
Its 316 characters include 273 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 221 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 45.9% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 12.2% of its width. The font carries no kerning, so spacing comes from each letter’s own side bearings. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Brush Roman Press will not line up exactly.

Method
The font files were checked locally for the characters shown, and the samples were rendered with the named fonts. AI helped describe the observed letterforms and draft sample compositions. These are specimen examples, not customer work; preview settings are illustrative.
The current text and font-file specimens received an independent review.
For R, Acorn Vetch reserves 0.634 em versus 0.748 em in Brush Roman Press. Its narrower advance can help when that capital repeats in a compact heading.
Acorn Birch gives g a 0.289 em advance; here it is 0.588 em. The alternative sets that character more tightly.
