Direction
Compare the enclosed A and narrow O directly in the sample before choosing it for a title.
The A reaches a pointed apex above a closed pentagonal counter. The O is a tall, narrow loop with chamfered corners; W carries a short inner upright.
Cambridge’s description supplies historical terminology, not a classification or origin claim for Gothic Modern Open.

Gonville & Caius, University of Cambridge: Typography — The University of Cambridge library exhibition groups angular, dense gothic, blackletter and textura as related historical terminology for early type. Source excerpt: “the angular, dense gothic (also called black letter or textura).”
Both rows show AORW at 82px. In Gothic Modern Open, A’s counter is enclosed by its roof and stems, while O is narrower than Abbey Textura’s O at this shared setting.
The comparison shows outline proportions and counter shape in the current files; it does not imply that one is more legible or historically earlier.

Gothic Modern Open is available as a WOFF2 preview of 42840 bytes. This is the actual file length, not a transfer-speed estimate.
Gothic Modern Open uses its current WOFF2 path and the actual cmap ranges. The unicode-range descriptor selects this face; it does not reduce the downloaded file size.

Choose
The A rises to a pointed apex and encloses a pentagonal counter.
O is a tall, narrow chamfered octagonal loop, not a broad open counter.
W has a short upright stroke at its inner center.
Good for
A short display heading where its pointed A and narrow chamfered O can be viewed at a generous size.
Check before using
Designs that depend on broad open counters or a clipped A apex; this specimen shows the opposite shapes.
About
Gothic Modern Open's lowercase x reaches 77.3% of the capital height, close to the 77.3% median for decorative fonts. Ascenders on b, d, h, k and l line up with the capitals (102.9% of their height), and descenders on g, j, p, q and y drop 17% of the cap height below the baseline. The o is an upright oval, 0.69 times as wide as it is tall, and Z is the widest capital, at 1.14 times the width of H. The O stops 5.6% of the cap height short of H and dips 1.1% below the baseline.
The letters stand upright, leaning less than 2.5° either way. Vertical stems measure 14.2% of the cap height. The contrast is mild: the sides of o and O are 1.46 times as thick as their tops and bottoms.
Its 316 characters include 273 Latin letters, plus 43 figures, punctuation marks and symbols; 221 of the Latin letters are accented or special forms beyond A to Z. The word space measures 45.6% of the cap height, and the blank space either side of a lowercase letter takes up 15.8% of its width. The font carries no kerning, so spacing comes from each letter’s own side bearings. The figures have different widths, so columns of numbers set in Gothic Modern Open will not line up exactly.

Method
The font files were checked for supported characters and visible letter shapes. AI helped describe the forms and prepare the sample compositions. The images use the named font files; samples are illustrative, and measurements come from the supplied files.
The current text and font-file specimens received an independent review.
For R, Abbey Textura reserves 0.730 em versus 0.468 em in Gothic Modern Open. Its wider layout space can change a short title’s line break.
Acorn Birch gives g a 0.289 em advance; here it is 0.400 em. The alternative sets that character more tightly.
