FAQ

Can ChatGPT Make a Font? Answers for Font Makers

Find out how AI font creation works with a written brief, lettering image or handwriting, including costs, supported files and ways to use the result.

Can ChatGPT make a font, and what can AI font makers do?

Can ChatGPT produce an installable font file?
ChatGPT can suggest a visual direction, sketch lettering or write code, but those outputs alone are not an installable font. A working typeface also needs character drawings, spacing, font tables and compiled files. With AIFontGen, start from a description, lettering image or handwriting and receive TTF, OTF, WOFF and WOFF2 files to install and preview.
Can an AI font maker draw a complete character set?
Yes. AIFontGen uses your description or reference image to draw letters, numerals and punctuation, then traces the shapes, sets spacing and checks for missing or damaged characters before download.
What are the steps to making a custom font?
Choose a written style brief, an image, your handwriting or a font you have permission to modify. Try real wording, refine glyphs or spacing in Studio, and export TTF, OTF, WOFF or WOFF2.
How much time does font generation usually need?
Most results are ready within one to four minutes. A handwriting photo may add a few minutes while unreadable or absent characters are drawn and reviewed.
What is the price of creating and editing a font?
New accounts receive 100 credits. A description-based English font uses 100 credits, or 320 for accented full Latin; image and handwriting fonts each use 360. Pro costs $19 monthly for 6,000 credits, while Studio is $49 monthly for 16,000. Both add commercial rights, the full library and Refined quality (fewer incorrect or damaged letters at three times the credits). The $4.99 Font Pass includes 500 credits.

Fonts drawn from handwriting

Can my handwritten letters become a usable font?
Choose screen drawing with a finger, stylus or mouse, photograph six short lines written on any paper, or fill in the two-page printable template. The result is your handwriting in TTF, OTF and web font files.
Is a printer required for handwriting input?
No printer is needed for on-screen writing or a photo of ordinary paper. Print the template only if that suits your process.
How are unreadable letters in a handwriting photo handled?
The font page identifies any unclear characters that AI drew in your style; you can redraw those in Studio. Accent marks use the strokes you supplied.

Characters and language coverage

Which writing systems can I add to my font?
A new font supports English or full Latin, including accents for most Western and Central European languages. Studio can add other Latin languages, Cyrillic (including Russian and Ukrainian), Greek, Hebrew, Thai, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese kana and Korean, with new characters drawn in the font’s style. Each new letter costs 3 credits, or 6 for Hebrew, Thai, Arabic and Hindi, where all characters are drawn. Korean billing covers 51 letters used to compose 2,350 common syllables. Arabic billing covers 67 drawn letter forms; other word-position forms are assembled from those.
How do I add Chinese characters or Japanese kanji?
Yes. Since Chinese characters and kanji run into the thousands, enter the specific characters needed for a title, brand or short passage in Studio, up to 150 per batch, and add more later. AI draws each in your typeface style for 6 credits; Chinese punctuation is included at no cost. Japanese kana and Korean are added as complete sets.

Font files, revisions and permissions

Which file types are available for export?
Export TTF or OTF for desktop installation, and WOFF or WOFF2 for web use. All come from one checked font version.
Can I revise glyphs after the first font build?
Yes. Studio lets you adjust spacing, replace a glyph with your drawing, request an AI redraw (10 credits), add a Bold or Thin weight (200 credits) and extend language coverage. Saving creates and checks a new version.
What commercial rights come with my font?
Under the AIFontGenerator Font License, fonts made on Pro or Studio include commercial and redistribution rights. Library downloads on the free tier are for personal use. Each font listing states its terms.
Are credits charged when a font task fails?
Reserved credits return automatically after a failure. The result page explains what to adjust before another attempt.

Styled Unicode text and free utilities

Do copy-and-paste font styles create font files?
No. These styles substitute Unicode symbols that resemble decorated letters, which can be useful in social bios without font controls. A real font is installed as a file for compatible design apps and websites, while the text remains readable to assistive technology and searchable.
Which font utilities can I use without credits?
Fancy text generators, font testing and conversion, signature and monogram creation, and language checks do not require credits. Font Finder allows one search per day without an account and three searches total on a free account; paid plans have no search limit.
