A FontStruct alternative for fonts you describe instead of build
FontStruct is a free grid editor where users combine geometric units to form letters. AIFontGen instead accepts a written brief, image or handwriting sample and creates a complete typeface that can be refined in Studio. Each approach fits a different workflow.
| Topic | AIFontGen | FontStruct |
|---|---|---|
| Typeface creation process | Provide a style description, lettering reference or alphabet sample. The font is drawn and assembled for you, with further edits available in Studio. | Construct each character manually from geometric units in FontStructor. |
| Style range | Begin with a style you can explain or illustrate, such as script, serif, display or handwriting. | Its shape set works well for geometric, pixel and modular letterforms. |
| File format | Exports include TTF, OTF, WOFF and WOFF2. | TrueType format only (TTF). |
| Cost to begin | New accounts receive 100 credits; a description-based font begins at 100. Subscriptions start at $19 per month, or choose the $4.99 Font Pass. | Use is free; advertising and sponsors provide funding. |
| Character range | Accented Latin is available; Studio adds Cyrillic, Greek, Japanese kana or Korean in the chosen typeface style. | Coverage depends on the characters you construct. |

Questions
- Can I create a font without drawing expertise?
- A written brief or reference image is enough to start with AIFontGen; preview your wording before export. FontStruct uses a grid editor where the user constructs the shapes.
- Can I change a generated font afterwards?
- Yes. Studio supports spacing changes, replacement drawings, AI redraws, extra weights and language additions.
